Welcome to the last day of February Snow Storm! The 28th. The shortest month of the year. But why is February shorter than every other month?
It all goes way back to Roman superstitions. A Roman king named Numa wanted the calendar to match the lunar year so part of that was to make every month have 29 days. In those times ever numbers were bad luck, hilariously. But he needed one of the months to have an even number so it would all work out so he decided to shorten February to 28. February was a month that Romans would recognize the dead so they figured that would be okay to make it unlucky with the even number
Now, the calendar as we know it has changed many times since then. Yet no one has ever changed February from 28 days. Weird!
