TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Video Games Could Be Helping Your Mental Health

Alright parents, you may or may not want to hide this story from your kids if they love video games. All that gaming during lockdowns this year could in fact be helping their mental health!

In a study published by the University of Oxford they found that people who played video games had increased mental well-being due to many different factors. It found that certain games can provide positive or even calming stimulation to the mind.  The reason for this, according to the study, is due what gaming provides the mind. Things like interacting with well-designed characters, dialogue, or storylines which can be even more engaging in videos games than they are when a person is watching movies. When you’re playing the video game you get to act out the story instead of just watching it.

They even found that old school games like Tetris can place you in a mindset that can reduce anxiety and can help prepare for stressful situations. There ya go, parents!

Super interesting! Play on, kids.
