Every Tuesday, Kevin and Jenna talk about all things food in Connecticut with Alex from CT Food Girly. With Cinco de Mayo coming up this Sunday there is no shortage of great Mexican restaurants here in Connecticut. Alex takes us up and down 95 for all the best spots to try and who’s throwing celebrations this weekend. Tacos, live music, guac, and even a margarita pedal bike!
In Wallingford and also Bristol, Yellow King Brews is offering a $25 margarita flight served both
Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 11pm to celebrate the holiday. I want to give a little run down
on the 5 flavors. They have The Classic, The Mezcal with a tajin rim, next is Rock Bottom which
is blackberry puree, agave, lime, triple sec and juarez gold. The next two are The Bloody Hell,
which is tequila, triple sec , lime, agave and blood orange puree and lastly choose your own,
from strawberry, guava, apricot, blueberry, coconut or raspberry.
Geronimo’s in New Haven and Fairfield is celebrating Cinco De Mayo with both food and drinks
specials, a live mariachi band, and more. Camacho Garage in New Haven is also having food
and drink specials with a live mariachi band. They have events that day from 3:00 to 7pm.
Starting off with the face painting, tattoos and a live donkey. Then the mariachi band is playing
from 3-5 and then the patron margarita bike will finish off the night. The patron bike is awesome,
I saw it this winter at Mohegan Sun, people sit on the bike and pedal in place and it blends a 20
oz margarita right by the handlebars.
New Haven Nights, which is a founder of New Haven Bar Crawl Series, they set up events and
top of the line bar crawls, is hosting one for Cinco De Mayo on Saturday, this is the 3rd annual,
and it runs from 12pm to 10pm, covering 8 venues, with discounted drink specials, giveaways,
tasting samples, part bus transportation, photographers and videographers, a photo booth, 15+
djs and free cover charge access when you purchase your ticket.
Mexico Tipico in Milford is gearing up for their full weekend live DJ event for Cinco De Mayo.
The DJ will start both Saturday and Sunday at 3pm, they will be offering drink specials all day,
and open their doors at 11am. They will be doing giveaways and Saturday Night they have a DJ
competition and with the lights, the music, the stage, this sounds like a great time.
Puerto Vallarta in Orange is going big for Cinco De Mayo. They are having dj’s all day, a ton of
drink specials and food specials as well. The food here is very good, I remember shooting at
this location a couple years back. Great service, this will be a must-do on Cinco De Mayo.
Don Carmelo’s in Norwalk is throwing a big big bash for Cinco. There will be shot girls all day,
the back patio will be open and the DJ’s will be there playing some awesome music. They will
have gifts to take home, drinks specials, food specials as well. This event runs from 3pm to
8pm.
Ola Latin Kitchen in Bridgeport has created a Cinco De Mayo menu for the holiday. Firstly, all
of their house margaritas will be $8 all night long. For tapas, they are having chicken and potato
tortillas with chipotle crema, cabbage and salsa verde. They’ve added a Mediterranean sea
bass over pinto beans, with smoked chorizo, baby spinach in a cherry tomato ragu with crispy
tortilla and pico. Lastly, for dessert, they have churros with chocolate.
