Do you have white on today? Be careful! It’s after Labor Day! What a silly tradition. Where did it come from?
It all started as a fashion tradition back in the 1800s. The idea was that wearing white represented being on vacation. Which, for most people, happened in the summer. With Labor Day being the unofficial end to summer wearing white after that showed that you could afford to get out of the city and vacation even once the summer was over.
This fake ‘rule’ that you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day was supposed to show that you didn’t have the money to take fall and winter vacations. It also meant that if you had enough money to not work you could wear white because it wouldn’t get dirty
Obviously this outdated tradition is just something we always heard about, but nowadays doesn’t really make sense. Feel free to wear what you want! I have white sneakers on right now!
