I was just listening on my way into work and heard you guys talk about green insulation and tax incentives. Many people don't know but the green cotton insulation is sold right in Bridgeport at Measure for Measure on Fairfield Ave. (the green building). This insulation is so great, made of cotton, and you can even let your children play with it. Thought maybe you could pass this information around to others who want to go Green and don't know where to start.

I own an online gift site, called The Juicy Pear Gift Shop. (TheJuicyPearGiftShop.com) Where I sell items ONLY made from recycled materials. Everyone has their thing, mine is to try to buy responsibly. I was in marketing for years and made the billboards (for a 1 day event) Now I have 2 manufactures who change them into bags. Way cool in any world you live.
Anyway, my suggestion is for listeners to Google and search out the Eco-Friendly gift this holiday season. It might not be a gift from a list, but it will be a better and a more meaningful one. It definitely changes the way you look at things.

Buy reusable "green" bags from your grocery store rather than taking home all that plastic. Stop& Shop, Shaws & Trader Joes all sell them for $1 each.
Dawn from Stratford writes:
1) For grocery shopping buy recycling bags Ex: Stop & Shop sells - around $1.00 a bag.
2) Also for grocery bring in a soft freezer tote, for you meat, and frozen goods. Stew Leonard's also sells them. Every time I go shopping I bring my bags and tote into the grocery store. This would be good adverting for Star. Instead of tee shirts, give away with recycling grocery bags or freezer tote.

Put 1 or 2 bricks in your toilet tank to reduce water useage. Use dishtowels more often than using papers towels for wiping hands, clean ups etc. Use 100% cotton to clean your windows, mirrors or glass. It leaves no lint and does a great job.

Hello, I think you have gotten off to a GREAT start! Congrats and thank you! Another way to reduce waste & recycle is Empties4Cash www.empties4cash.com. Simply mail in your used print cartridges and raise money for charity. You can support any charitable program on their site or raise funds for an organization of your choice. Just email in a request to receive pre-paid envelopes or boxes today. All cartridges with a print head qualify. That includes Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, Compaq, Canon, Dell, Brother and Apple. This program is free to use, no selling, obligation or burden to anyone and helps the environment!
An easy way to help out is to post a flyer about recycling at your work or school and supply the prepaid envelopes so people can use as they need them to discard empties, or just supply a larger box to just drop them into and then mail them when the box is full. (you can print out informative flyers from the website). Thanks for the reduce, reuse & reclyle info! Every little bit helps!

Start replacing all of your conventional household cleaners with natural alternatives. If you were to bring your conventional cleaners to the dump they would make you put them in the hazardous material section-how toxic is that!

Why not give major companies paper only recycle bins. I noticed when others throw paper away they put it in their waste paper basket with everything else. If big companies take the extra step to recycle they will help save a tree or two.

Getting restaurants to use plastic that can be recycled instead of Styrofoam. My city will not recycle Styrofoam. I don't know why. I know it can be recycled. When I eat out a lot of places use Styrofoam as to go boxes. Perhaps you could look into why the city does not recycle Styrofoam and get back with me on that. I'm very curious.

The best way I have found to recycle and reuse is the website www.freecycle.org. it is a local program that offers free items or items wanted for free - since it is local you pick up no mailing, no fees extra - it is all free I have been using it for over a year cleaned out my attic and basement this way without ever leaving the house to go to dump, etc. great way to get rid of clothes, etc. you can even get things like Halloween costumes for free.
