Great news from our office Green Team! We had set the goal this past November of reducing our paper usage by at least one carton of paper per month by the end of 3 months... we did much better than expected and cut our average paper use down by over 3 cartons per month from December to February. Compared to a year ago it's a 20% reduction in paper use!

Now our building is pitching in even more. Our cafeteria recently replaced styrofoam cups with paper cups, and they announced they are now recycling plastic food containers and utensils. Every little bit helps!

We continue to make progess. In our own office we've cut down paper use, and we've gotten the building to add cardboard to their recycling. With just small changes, we've seen huge differences. It's amazing what happens when everyone chips in just a little.

So far, things are off to a great start around the office. We've added recycling bins throughout the offices, mainly in the busiest areas like the conference room, kitchen, and copy rooms. In addition, we made sure that our building knew to separate the recycle bins from the rest of the trash. All it meant was getting a couple of small dumpsters to keep things separate, and making sure the maintenance staff knew what was going on.
Also, we've appointed an in office "Green Team" who will be in charge of coming up with and introducing new green initiatives. Things like walking around at the end of the day turning off lights, trying to find ways to reduce paper use, and whatever else they think will help. Some people are more welcome to change than others, it's hard to break old habits! Keep sending the suggestions, and all the great links! They help a lot!

Welcome to the first STAR Green Blog entry! Like many people, we at STAR 99.9 are still learning a lot about going green, and making a lot of changes around our own offices. Right now, we're starting small and working up towards bigger goals. For instance, we ordered ceramic mugs for the whole office to eliminate paper cups. We have also installed paperless contesting software, and have tried to cut back on printing anything that can be left in digital form. As we continue to make changes, or come across interesting solutions, we'll be sure to post them here in hopes that they may help you as well. Thanks for checking out Project STAR3, and be sure to check back often!
